OPENI'S USEFUL TOOLBOX
YouTube Journal
Save useful video summaries, transcripts, comments and your own reflections in local Word documents.
Before you install
This desktop extension is a public beta. Basic local saving was checked on Windows Chrome and Whale. Real Mac testing is pending. The extension interface and the separate notes app currently remain in Korean; this English page explains installation and usage. Mobile app automation is not offered.
1. Download and extract
Download extension 0.4.2 ZIP. Extract it into a permanent folder. Do not move or delete the installed folder later. This is a manual installation package, not a Chrome Web Store listing.
2. Load the extension
Open chrome://extensions in Chrome, or whale://extensions in Whale. Enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked and select the extracted folder containing manifest.json. Pin the extension if you want quick access.
3. Connect a folder
Open the journal library and choose an empty output folder. Allow access when your browser asks. The extension writes two cumulative Word files: notes and transcripts. Keep Word documents closed while saving. Internal records remain available if a file write fails.
4. Add a video
Open a YouTube video and press the journal’s add button. It tries the enabled summary and transcript collection. If YouTube does not offer a summary or transcript, that part is skipped. It saves comments observed while enabled and private reflections that you enter; historical activity is not imported.
5. Back up and update
Export a JSON backup before changing browsers or reinstalling. For an update, keep the same installed folder and replace its program files, then reload the extension and YouTube tab. Do not remove the extension to update: removal can delete its internal records. Updates · Privacy.
